Great, just compare two poems for me. You'll get all my internets.

Huh?

I believe I am starting to outgrow video games.  No, really, I am.  I am becoming less enthusiastic about them everyday and starting to realize the things that matter- and video games is not one of them.

Notes for Art Theme: Escapism

Escaping from __________.

escapism(Merriam-Webster)- “habitual diversion of the mind to purely imaginative activity or entertainment as an escape from reality or routine.”

amusement- amuse: a ~ muse.  muses = Greek goddesses of the arts, music, and literature.  Gave inspiration to the poets and artists of the day.  a ~ sexual = non sexual.  a ~ symmetrical = non symmetrical.  therefore, a ~ muse = non inspirational.

forms of escapism (bold are major or common forms): video games, television, internet, twitter, facebook, skype, tumblr, youtube, yahoo news, music, books, art, focusing on a passion, worship, religion, spirituality, fantasies [WHAT IS FANTASY AND WHAT IS REALITY], sexual fantasies, sex, masturbation, ecstasy, alcohol, drugs, substances, sensations, theme/amusement parks, vacations, sleep, eating, “comfort food,” sports, celebrity drama, gossip…

break them down: categorize why certain forms are sought after/why we choose that as our escape. ex.: out of boredom, because it was the most convenient , because it works the best/is the most effective or powerful, the most gratifying, the easiest to control, the most accepted way of escapism…

images that come to mind: headphones, inside world vs. outside world, inside - outside, within - without, emptiness, crazy, delusions, nature vs. mechanics and visa visa, dimensions, abuse, routines, breaking away, pushing, pulling, bars, jail, inner jail, mind, world, man-made structures and systems versus natural structures and systems, what is natural, what is real, breaking, lies and truth, conspiracies, asylums, funny-farms,…

phrases or analogies that come to mind: as someone puts on headphones to, “shut off,” the outside world, so we do with many other things.  Is there good and bad escapism, or just different forms?  Does the form make it good or bad?  Am I crazy?

still under “phrases” section here but it was a long one so, yeahIf escapism is an intentional diversion from reality, what is reality?  If an artificial reality had been set up [actively trying not to allude to The Matrix here], how would we know it?-We would examine it ourselves, be it through research or otherwise-Really looking at it ourselves because listening to the mainstream media won’t often get us the real truth, unfiltered, and, in fact, listening to ANYONE ELSE will not get us the truth, so in that sense the truth-OR REALITY-lies within ourselves, assuming we have the courage to honestly look there-If the facts scared us, would we shy away from them, subconsciously basically saying, “Well, this isn’t very pleasant, so I’d better ignore it/it can’t be true”?-(truth is stranger than fiction)-only would we shy away if it came from an outside source telling us because we can’t trust an outside source all the time, but if it came from within, can we trust ourselves enough to be honest in saying something here is very very wrong-then comes the grief when we not only know but we believe that we have been fooled, we have been missing out, we realize what really matters, but then we begin to change, to accept reality, and we wrestle with ourselves between wanting a harsh, cruel, cold reality or a warm and fuzzy pleasant prison within which we trap ourselves because it “feels good” and we have become accustomed to it, which is why we so often miss the beauty of REALITY!

mediums to definitely use: collage, sculpture,…

Clarifications and the Altar Call

No ACTION saves us or brings us to Christ(unless we’re talking about a chain of events leading up to repentance, but don’t get saucy with me).  We are saved by faith- simple, childlike faith.  While works(also called the, “fruits of the spirit”) are not necessary, they are a bi-product of living in the Holy Spirit whom is received only through that simple, child-like faith in Christ Jesus because He(Holy Spirit) is the “helper” Jesus said He would send after his departure(John 15:26).  However, the Altar Call, which was invented in the late 19th century by Charles Finney, creates a mindset of the same nature as the one which says, “If I do (x), I will be saved.”  Coming up that altar does not make you receive the Holy Spirit, believing in Jesus does.  Even when this is clarified to a congregation before giving the call to the altar, that doesn’t change the mindset that those who come forward are literally coming to Christ… who is up by the altar?  As if He is waiting up there for them up there and if they do not make it to the front they are not really saved.  Regardless of how dismissive this claim may be, the reality is that that’s exactly our mindset when we do decide to, “walk the aisle,” isn’t it?  The article I’ve posted here as my source shows just how far this problem could take us.

Peace be with you in Christ.
